Mudstorm

The weather here in West Texas isn't always like the beautiful sunsets seen in Westerns. Yes sometimes the wind actually blows; if you can believe that. Wednesday night, we had a mud storm.

What is a mud storm you might ask? If you have never witnessed a good Texas mudstorm you have missed a treat. Fist it rains a bit, just enough to bead up water on cars, trucks, and buildings. Then the rain stops and the wind picks up to a good polite breeze; say about fifty mph or so. The wind is then able to sift down to the looser dirt and deposit it on the beaded water so that everything is coated in mud.

The mud storm is Mother Natures way of successfully drying up any moisture while still forcing you to wash your vehicle. My work truck is immune to this cruel trick of Mother Nature as it is kept together by a protective layer of dirt. The weatherman is predicting more mud storms this weekend so my truck should be tough as nails by Monday.

Here's to a great weekend everybody. Hope the weather suits you.

No mud storms in Georgia, but we had one heck of a thunderstorm last night. I bet all the freakin' pollen producing pine trees keep the mud down in my neck of the woods. Oh, and I'm not at all bitter about it - the pollen, that is.

Your work truck and my husbands jeep have a lot in common. :D

As for the mud storms, that would bug the hell out of me!

vic: You don't sound bitter at all.

mimi: It has been in the 70's and 80's all week. We haven't had much in the way of winter this year. I would luv a good snow.

laurie: And the wind would add an element of difficulty. :)

sherri: It is a pain. Your husband sounds very sensible concerning automotive know how.

See, come to Fuzz's and you learn something new! My mom would be so proud!

Whatever you do, DON'T wash that truck! I fear for your safety! *grins*

The chaplain at the hospital where I worked last is a native of San Antonio, and used to talk about the windstorms they used to get. He said it would look like your car had been sandblasted. He never talked about mudstorms, though; that has to suck.

Sounds extremely mess.
I've always wondered--maybe I watch too many movies--are there tumbleweeds blowing around during these storms?

Never heard of mudstorms. My wife is from Tenneesse and she had never experienced an ice storm until she moved to Maryland. I was used to them although they don't happen that often.

green eyes: Have no fear. I occasionally rinse off the top layer but I would never be so foolish as to wash off the protective barrier that has taken so long to build up.

bruce: San Antonio is bad but they haven't got anything on the wind storms around here. It is even worse east of here in towns with names like Brownfield. A town whose very name is truth in Advertising.

angel jr: I have seen tumbleweeds the size of trees bounding across endless acres just waiting for the oppertunity to whack you as you are going down the road.

mm: Ice Storms are as rare as hens teeth in this part of the world. Although when we do get one you can guarentee that one out of every four cars are going in the ditch. People are prone to driving like idiots no matter what the conditions might be.

Beautiful photo. Yeah, the mud storm - I thought it was just a plot by the carwash industry. Exasperating.

Wow, here's mud in your eye. Very interesting weather you have down there in West Texas.
In Minnesota and the Dakotas, we have "snirt" a combination of blowing snow and dirt.

april: It sounds lovely there.

pf: Yesterday afternoon, I noticed someone in their front yard washing their car during a sand storm. Mother Nature needed some help I guess.

rocky: i have heard it all now. Snirt just sounds plain nasty.

*sigh* it would be totally nice to not be covered in snow for 9 months a year.

My gosh, a mud storm sounds like a big F YOU from Mother Nature. Hey, we got hail here today!!

ranea: Where would the world be without duct tape?

ruben: It is only a mild annoyance. But I have seen people new to the area frightened of the wind. After awhile you just get used to it.

rabsteen: It do not think that I could cope with all that snow but a little of it would be nice. We haven't had a decent snow or moisture at all this winter.

jane: I hate hail. It is like a big punctuation mark to F U from Mother Nature. Hope you didn't have anything beat up in the hail storm.
