Never Forget

Ashbah

The ghosts of American soldiers
wander the streets of Balad by night,
unsure of their way home, exhausted,
the desert wind blowing trash
down the narrow alleys as a voice
sounds from the minaret, a soulfull call
reminding them how alone they are,
how lost. And the Iraqi dead,
they watch in silence from rooftops
as date palms line the shore in silhouette,
leaning toward Mecca when the dawn wind blows.

I thank all of those who have defended the freedoms that this nation hold dear. May a grateful nation remember the sacrifices that you have made not just on this holiday weekend but on all days.

michael: Thank you. I would urge all readers to follow the link and listen to the interview with Sargeant Turner. The interview and his readings of his poetry is very moving.

Happy Memorial Day buddy!!! It's not just a day off from work, but should be a day in which we remember that we have holidays, can have barbeques and spend time with loved ones becuase of those soldiers who fight for our freedom.

angel, jr: You are so right.

ranea: I am glad that you listened to the interview. The words as spoken by Sargeant Turner added so much than just reading the print on the page.

bruce: And so we start another day of freedom.

ben: It would be so nice to forget the politics and just reflect if only for just a day. No matter how one feels about the present conflict. These men and women are performing their duties and because of that we can not forget them. That is our duty.

What a moving post!
A BIG 'THANK YOU'
2 all of our men &
women who have served,
are serving now,
and who will be soon!
Where would we be
without their bravery?
:)

siren: I came across the article while doing a google search for pictures and the words moved me. Especcially after hearing them from his own voice.

catch: You are very welcome.

keshi: It does say quite a bit about the human condition to me. Brian Turner's words speak volumes in just a few short sentances.

starbender: I shudder to think of that place. It would be a world of terrors.
