As much as we remember the thorns it is the beauty of the blossom as it flowers that fills our hearts. To my Mother, to the Mother of my children, and to all who have earned the name Mother, I wish you a Happy Mother's Day.
That was nice. That brought to mind that line in Steel Magnolia about how women were expected to be as dainty and pretty as a magnolia, but were stronger than most men gave them credit for. Yes I watched that chick flick and yes it got me a little choked up--so sue me!!! Happy Mother's Day to Angry Joyce.
"The Yellow Rose of Texas" is a famous Texas legend best reserved for campfire nights.
The phrase "Yellow Rose" comes from the blossoms on the cacti that Fuzz has pictured. On the dry, treeless expanses of West Texas, the pioneers called the blossoms "yellow roses" -- they bloom around Mother's Day in the Spring.
"She's the sweetest little rosebud that Texas ever knew, Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew; You may talk about your Clementine, and sing of Rosalee, But the yellow rose of Texas is the only girl for me."
["rosebud" is not in the original version of the song, which was about the woman in the legend]
Happy Mother's Day to those of you who am, whose are bright as diamonds, and sparkle like the dew.
keshi: It is serene but it also proves the saying that everything in West Texas either sticks ya, bites ya, or fucks ya. Cactus and mesquite; it is just too bad that there wasn't a rattler slithering around.
