Words of The Dead

The cemetery in my town is not all that old in the grand scheme of things. This part of the country was not settled until the mid to late 1800's. It does hold a deal of history with the burial site and memorial for Buffalo Soldiers who died in the Indian Wars fighting Quanah Parker. It also has the oft repeated legend of Bloody Mary's Grave that moves from one location to another.

The most disturbing sight in the graveyard to me is the words left etched on a tombstone from the 1930's. I have never been sure as to whether the author wanted to leave words of caution from his Christian Faith to future generations or whether he thought that it would be a kick to spook generations to come. I will leave it for you to decide.

'Remember Now As You Pass By, As You Are Now So Once Was I. As I Am Now, Soon You Must Be. Prepare For Death and Follow Me.'

cemetery, they have never really creeped me out, it was a great place to take a date when I was younger. It was the one place I could feel pretty comfortable knowing that no one is going to sneaking up to cockblock you.

Where did you get that picture? I'm sure I've seen it somewhere before. Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, anyone?

I love graveyards! I have many fond memories in Graveyards... :-) England has some kickass graveyards - dating mostly early 1800s on up. I always read them and like to try and figure out how they died...

Master Baiter: You don't happen to live by the Wooley Swamp do you.

c.d.: Actually back in the day, some of the biggest parties that were had were right behind the cemetery.

laurie: I wonder what the guy was like in real life.

tina: Actually I found the pic by taking a quiz on whether I would make a good vampire or not and this is the pic from my answer. Totally vampire. I will try to find that link.

t: I have seen that epitaph before. The story that I remember it was penned by a man's wife and his mistress and the engraver didn't catch it until after it's completion ( or so he said ).

pita: People are just dying to go there.

I happen to have some fond cemetary memories myself. IT takes a lot to scare me though. I suppose that's why I am living in a possessed house. T, I love that inscription. I'll have to think of something similar for my own someday... How's your vacation fuxx?

dear jane: Vacation has found me working harder to get out of work than if I had just gone to work.
