It's A Redneck World

It seems as if Redneck culture is gaining ground everyday. If you doubt that one has to look no farther than the success of The Blue Collar Comedy Tour, Larry The Cable Guy voicing a character in a Disney movie, and the growing sport rooted in Redneck America.

This growing sport has inked a brand new tv deal, corporate sponsors, and growing legions of fans packing in to watch these sporting events. Did you guess Nascar? If you did, you were wrong. I am speaking of Professional Bass Fishing. Bassmasters is jumping out of the water.

I personally don't know about calling fishing a sport. I kind of lump it in the same category as bowling. If the better the beer buzz is, the better you perform at the activity then it is hard to call it a sport.

Fishing is not a sport...it's just a hobby.

At least I haven't yet seen squirrel eating raised to the level of weekend coverage on Fox.

Yet.

That would be about as exciting as watching golf.

I`ve got to admit though, those guys that do the fishing/filming have got it made. They go fishing and get paid for it..

My dad fishes on the "semi-pro circuit." He's got the walls in his study cluttered with pictures of himself and "the pros" with their autographs next to each one.

I still don't get it. I think it all comes down to the fact that it gives him something to do and it explains to my mom why he needs a $30,000 bass boat that goes faster on water than my car on the highway.

keshi: But they do look rather dashing in their Nascar like uniforms.

jim: I will look with the safe search off. That sounds like it might get a whale of a pic.

david: I never understood how anyone could eat a tree rat unless it was for pure survival.

phred: And their sponsers donate all their cool stuff.

siren: I guess it would depend on what one was fishing for. Mermaid fishermen would need a lot of skill. ;)

curare: Could I get an autograph?

hmm fishing and bowling are not my thing....when you fish you have to be too quiet for me..and bowling is ok if your with friends and have a few beers...makes it more jovial. I just hate those bowling shoes! Thye should make them more stylish for us ladies!

I've always thought about that too.
Maybe the sports world needs a "Watching the Grass Grow" League...
Give me a break.
Bassmasters? How about "Assmasters"... Now that, Fuzz, is a sport I'd watch!

ESPN.com actually has a fantasy bass fishing game, so it must be a sport, right? Right?

OK, I've tried 4 times to send this, so if there's a double post, I apologize; and F*** Blogger.

mimi: Those singing fish are a pain in the ass. But I find that the quicker you want the batteries to shell out the longer they last. This is especcially true of noisy kids toys.

catch: I don't know if they would work with heels.

michael: You might just have a hit with 'Assmasters.'

bruce: How bored with life do you have to be to play a fantasy bass fishing game? That is just insane. I need to sign up for it.

Well, you'll know the end is nigh and drop all the pretenses and just make beer drinking a sport all by itself. That would pretty much eliminate bowling, fishing, golf and that crap where they slide the big stones on the ice.

My husband is good friends with a professional sports fisherman. My husband IDOLIZES this guy!

Johnny Wadd said...

Yea i'm not sure about labelling it a sport either, the way i feel is if you can drink and smoke while you play your game...it likely isn't a "sport".

hi Fuzzy no, thanks for stopping by and ref your comment: he did not shave it specially for the show, he always has it like that, but some of the men DID dye their hair jet black for the performance. it was really funny, when they all came in with black hair, they looked SOOOO different...

yes, i agree, the rednecks are breeding like um...i'm trying to think of something that won't insult the poor innocent annimals...anyway here is something funny i heard on Canadian Air Farce, and i thought of you when i heard it... (i wonder if you get to see this great show that pokes fun at EVERYTHING, no politician or celebrety is safe from their "rapier wit")...one of the characters asks: "How come the owners of Pitt Bulls look like they shouldn't breed either?" [*this still makes me chuckle*]

cheers from cloudy but warm Vancouver, (yeah, i know, another weather report!)

ozy: I am pretty sure that it would take a stronger drink than beer to compete in that rock sliding game. I am thinking peppermint schnapps at the least.

laurie: It does!

sherri: I can remember you doing a post about a fishing adventure along these lines. Hold on to the memoribilia. No telling when QVC will blow the lid off of this market.

johnnie: I hear ya.

dragonfly: Nope don't get that down hear but it sounds good.

OK, I just keep getting further and further from redneck status.

Fishing? Yuck! I'll just take the beer and sunbathe!

Fishing has to be one of the most boring thing on earth....
I cant stay quiet that long.

:P fuzzbox said...

green eyes: I would certainly rather watch that than watch fishing on tv. :)

starbender: You are certainly asking the wrong person that question. :O

pixie: They need to genetically engineer deaf fish. It is an advancement that would help immensely in the growth of their (sport).

Green Eyes said...

Well, that's a win/win situation then, Fuzz!

Hey Im posting on this today - the movie not the fishies! I've never been bass fishing, but I did see CARS - it was SOOO damn FUNNY! You have to take the family and go see it Fuxxie!

Big Pissy said...

I agree with Pixie.

Fishing=BORING!!!

:P fuzzbox said...

green eyes: It's all good!

pita: I hope I get to go and see it this weekend. The previews look like it could be one of Pixar's best.

pissy: When I am catching fish, I like fishing. Otherwise I'd just as soon kick back and drink beer under a shade tree and skip rocks across the water.

what about deep sea fishing, that's exciting, no....ops, that could be taken the wrong way...

I do love me some Ron White.

:P fuzzbox said...

dragonfly: Or pearl diving.

phlegmy: He is funny. And a heck of a hunter with a van.

dragonflyfilly said...

oh yeah, "pearl diving" i'm not sure i know what that is but i'm sure it is rude and funny....????
