I Just Know That I Like It

Metal Mark finally lost his mind and allowed me a guest post slot on his Heavy Metal Revue site, Heavy Metal Time Machine. I broke from his traditional format and reviewed one of my favorite bands, ZZ Top, on one of their early albums, 'Tres Hombres.' I have to give them credit as being one of the first bands that I heard that really made me rock. I have never written a music revue but there is a first for everything. I hope you enjoy it over there.

I also have a personal reason for my first musical revue to be ZZ Top. I didn't know it at the time but I actually inadvertently stole one of their songs long ago. When Crazy Dan and Big D were very young, I would belt out ZZ Top's, 'TV Dinners', whenever Mom would have to work and I would slip in some TV Dinners for dinner. I never actually said that I had written the song but I never told them that it was a ZZ Top tune either.

Just last year, CD and Big D told me that they were watching a movie at the theater when 'TV Dinner' by ZZ Top was played. They both left the theater thinking that some group had stole my song. On returning home they looked up the song and found that I was not the original author of 'TV Dinner.' Maybe their image of me was tarnished a bit but I bet they were the only kids in Pre-K to know both the entire lyrics to a ZZ Top tune and the complete definition of hermaphodite ( but that is another story altogether). I guess I helped educate them right.

This week's rant has been postponed until this weekend. Don't worry, I still have plenty to be pissed about.

ahh zztops...when we lived on the steiner ranch in austin they changed the old nudist camp lodges to a fat farm and dusty was there..my son was about 13 and worked there busing tables, etc..he became friends with dusty..when dusty found out that i baked home made cookies he would pay my son to steal them and bring them to him..i didnt find out about this for a long time...thinking my skinny kid sure could put them cookies away..dusty may be the only customer there that actually gained 10 lbs
plus while we were there my 3 year old daughter sat at the counter with her feet up singing all the words to 'up against the wall red neck mother'...and would bellow out as loud as she could mother who had loved her son so well..so well..so well...oh hell....

How can you not like ZZ Top? I used to do the same thing whenever I'd get a instant-dinner when I was a kid.

You chose their best album Fuzz. I'll go over and have a look.

Okay rant away buddy.
By the way, I've recently officially incorporated your catch-word "fuck-tard" into my vocabulary. But I always credit you with the term.

That's a great story. It was like finding out there is no Santa Claus.

keshi: Yeppers.

bruce: Roll me up another Bull Durham.

catch: The world finally caught up with Eliminator. It was about time. MTV was the perfect vehicle for their coupe.

granny: That is a hell of a great story. Now I am wondering if you were the inspiration for Blue Jean Blues. :)

mike: I still like tv dinners, if the sauce is not too blue.

ben: I am glad that you agreed with me on Tres Hombres. Actually my favorite tune is Mexican Blackbird but although I really like Fandango I always have liked Tres' Hombres a bit more.

ozy: If your down in Acuna give me a holler.

on my watch: Thanks, I appreciate it. My brothers are into metal now. I am proud. My son is following in my headphones as well.

starbender: Perhaps Crazy Dan will come by and tell that story. It is a good one.

angel, jr: You really know how to make a guy proud. Don't let the fucktards get you down.

phoenix: Or that Santa Clause is really a con.

mimi: They were and it takes quite a bit to freak them out.

ZZ Top?

Damn, I remember being a small boy and my babysitter would watch MTV (when it was good in the 80's) all day. I remember seeing ZZ Top and their super-long beards and think "Man those guys are cool".

My god, how long has it been?

Doug said...

...The other one I remember back then is Twisted Sister. Those guys rocked! ;)

That's such a cute story about your brothers. I'm floored that you actually cooked something for them.

awww, sad they found out you didn't write it - and all this time they thought you were bad, that you were nationwide. Well, ya still are, buddy! Cause you know why? Cause you've got legs, and you know how to use them, and you're just savvy enough to get away with cheap sunglasses and you probably know a thing or three about how classy broads like a nice pearl necklace now and again. I'm just sayin.

I need a fuzzfix
I hope you are ok
Ya didn't run off to Vegas with all the OT did ya?

:P fuzzbox said...

phats: They are a blast.

paige: And I thought 'Pearl Necklace' would be your fave. ;)

ozy: I will sit down and try to whip up a few. If you need something that is on the site feel free to grab what you need.

david: The '80's were perfect for cheese.

rocky jay: Spoken like a true tush man.

lisa: Here's wishing you a successful search.

gerald: I was always amused that the drummer, Frank Beard, was the one without a beard.

jane: I also whipped up a great meatloaf. They were always telling mom that her's wasn't as good because she didn't sing and dance like I did while making it.

leigh: They were at that.

phlegmmy: And I also have gave up Flying While Blind long ago.

old fart's wife: I have just been busy as hell putting in over 72 hours a week for the past four. Hopefully this will slow down soon. What little free time I have had, I have spent with my family. It has left very little blogging time.

Love those boys from Texas. Every year they used to play in Oakland in November, and since it was my birthday month, I'd just treat myself out to see them. I always rode my bike although the weather sucked at times... great biker crowd was always there. Funny story about the tv dinners.... loved that video too.

Terry: ZZ Top has quite a following among bike enthusiasts. I think it is a sharing of the freedom of the road.
